Sunset Over New York City

My name is Sarah Bassing (she/her). I’m a PhD candidate at the University of Washington studying predator-prey interactions. I use game cameras to capture images of species like cougars, wolves, deer, and elk in eastern WA. I finished my fieldwork this summer and now get to dive into my data to find out how predation risk influences where and when different species occur across the landscape. This photo was taken while I was collecting data for my dissertation this summer. I was bushwhacking through some dense vegetation at one of my study sites when I received a text that I’d been awarded a grant that would expand my research and give me funding for a year. Not a bad day in the field!
