This is an old picture of me with a map from 1554, pointing at a ship. I study mostly English literature and culture from the 16th and 17th centuries with an eye toward maritime cultures, maritime metaphors, gender, government, power, race, normality, and monstrosity. I just started a new job at Colby College, and I'm teaching Environmental Humanities this fall: I'm planning to involve my new students in my day of science (from Latin: scientia--knowledge: knowledge making!).
