I'm Daisy Shearer and I am a postgraduate researcher at the University of Surrey's Advanced Technology Institute.

In this photo, I'm mounting a semiconductor quantum well sample into the plasma focused ion beam (FIB). I use the FIB to fabricate nanostructures by etching away material or depositing material onto the sample surface. This allows me to make new devices for quantum technology applications.

Not many people know what scientists get up to every day so I want to demystify the life of an experimental quantum physicist by sharing what I get up to!
